Pimpchito, born Jonathan Lucas Lopez originally from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, came to Boston Massachusetts at the tender age of three; when his parents Wanda and Juan Luis Lopez made a conscience decision, to leave their beloved island home and extended family to pursue a better future for their children. As in many familiar cases with small children Pimpchito absorbed and adapted to English as a second language very easily. However, his parents were adamant about preserving his morals and roots at home. Primarily with language and what influenced his chosen art: MUSIC.
Pimpchito wrote his first verse in 1997 at the age of sixteen but it wasn’t until 1998 that he became serious and determined to record an album. In the year 2000 he released his first album titled “The Revelation”.
Although it was raw in both beats and sounds the lyrics and delivery impressed the Boston Summer Committee in particular the organizers of the Puerto Rican Festival, where he shared the stage and held his own along side big names like, Don Omar, IVY Queen, Nicky Jam, Tego Calderon, Tony Dice and Wisin y Yandel just to name a few. He won the respect of the Boston audience with his humble but strong presence on the mic. From 2003-2005 he was crowned the winner of the Puerto Rican Festival’s Reggaeton Competitions and a force to be reckoned with. Pimpchito was then invited to lay down and record four of his original tracks at the LUNY TUNES Mas FLOW studios in Puerto Rico in 2005. For the next two years he sold 6,000 copies of his second album titled “Gavete” through out all of the East Coast including Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
Aside from being an incredible artist Pimpchito is also a father to his beautiful daughter Tatiana Meleny Lopez. He is involved with non profit concerts that give back to his community one of the most recent projects is Elements of Music where all profits will go to public school programs in the Boston Area. His most asked question is how did he get his name? His mother Wanda always called him Pinchito pronounced pEEn-CHEETO which means Dragonfly. Wanda laughs as she recalls that “he had gone through a growth spurt and all you saw was this round head on this slender body” never making fun of him more out of affection and love and so for a while the name stuck. As he grew older his friends noticed how the ladies where sweet on him and started calling him PIMPCHITO, as he always makes it clear when they ask, “Growing up with four sisters, countless female cousins and now my daughter how can you not respect women? I have the deepest respect for all females”. He just released his third album titled “Pimpchito El Extraordinario” where he surprised his fans with a long awaited fusion of merengue-mambo. It just goes to show how he continues to grow artistically and musically.
